Earlier this week (25th February 2015) Sanctuary attended an exclusive event at the Palace of Westminster, which was held in honour of the winners of the 2014 Social Worker of the Year Awards.

Social Worker of the Year Award 2014 winners

We were delighted to have the opportunity to speak with so many dedicated and hard working practitioners and learn more about what they are doing to support their profession. Each award winner has become an ambassador for the social work sector, and it was an honour to join them as they met with high profile figures including Lyn Romeo (Chief Social Worker, Adults) and Edward Timpson MP (Minister for Children and Families) who stated during his speech:

Edward Timpson MP

“The one thing I can say about social work is the need to focus on the work that they do, in whatever guise it maybe. Social workers will continue to be an important player in our society.”

Zahraa Adam, Social Worker of the Year 2014

Sanctuary has been the headline sponsor of the event since 2010, and as well as providing financial support, our Managing Director, James Rook is also one of the Trustees of the registered charity responsible for organising the awards.

During the event, James made a short speech in which he stated how proud he was to be involved with the awards, and praised all of the winners for the work that they do. He also took the time to publicly congratulate the awards founder Beverley Williams, who was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List

Professor Ray Jones

Sanctuary will now be working alongside the rest of the organising team (including Beverley Williams, Professor Ray Jones and Ruth Smith) to raise awareness of the 2015 awards celebrations which will officially open for entry in March.
