There will be no more leeway on registering with the Nursing and Midwife Council (NMC) as the small administrative window is set to close firmly shut on late registrants from November.

Although this will only apply to a small number of people who the NMC say persistently miss their deadline, they will find themselves having to make an application for readmission if they miss the midnight deadline on their expiry date. The readmission procedure, the NMC has warned, could take between two and six weeks depending on the circumstances.

The reasoning behind having a strict cut off point is to enable the seamless introduction of the quarterly payment system for registration fees, the NMC states.

For all our nurses, whether working in the prison estate or community, we highly recommend checking your expiry date and putting it in the diary ahead of time.

The NMC also recommends setting up an online account as the quickest and most effective way to keep on top of registration.
