Sanctuary Social Care currently has a permanent vacancy based in Brighton for a Deputy Area Manager. As the post holder of this role, you will receive a competitive salary of £34,000 - £38,000 per annum.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, independent and skilled deputy area manager to work closely with the Area Manager and be the lead person within the team in the continuing development of the TLC service. The focus of the work will be with the trauma and attachment programme, supporting and guiding the team to deliver this programme in a geographical region. The post will involve line managing the dedicated team to improve the outcomes and lives of looked after children, delivering a high-quality therapeutic service.

- Working alongside the placement team to ensure appropriate matches between young people and foster carers are made and undertaking the necessary planning and intervention to achieve and maintain an 90% occupancy rate (in line with KPI's) within the Foster Carer Team.
- Ensure children's care and development needs are met within placements, as identified within their Therapeutic Care - Plan, the 'Every Child Matters' 5 key objectives and statutory LAC documents.
- Facilitating Carers Therapeutic Parenting Groups, carer support groups, events within the region.
- Co-ordinate the activities of Social Work Assistants and support workers to provide direct work as required for children and support for foster carers.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local Commissioning and Social Work Teams which further the agency's partnership arrangements.
- Deputising for the Area Manager and providing support to the social work team, making key decisions to ensure the best outcomes for young people and attending practice review/complaints meetings.
- Supervise Social Workers, Social Work Assistants, Student Social Workers and Sessional Workers and newly qualified workers, (if required to undertake the Practice Educators course if not already)
- Providing inductions to new staff.
- Undertake research projects to further enhance the practice of social work staff and the agency.
- Keep compliance with the National Minimum Standards, Fostering Regulations, and Fostering Statutory Guidance and have a good working knowledge of key child care legislation.
- Participate in the 'out of office hours' duty system providing telephone support to Foster Carers.

Requirements of the supervising social worker:
- A social worker qualification, 3 + post qualifying experience
- Dip SW/CQSW, Degree and current HCPC registration
- A minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience in children's services/ foster care delivery.
- Experience of supervising staff/students
- Experience of working therapeutically with children, understanding of trauma and attachment, and therapeutic parenting models.
- Ability to manage and support foster carers
- Experience of working to targets and performance indicators
- Effective report writing skills,
- Ability to complete high-quality assessments
- Experience of group work and delivering training
