Has raising awareness of the profession helped to improve the public’s understanding? 

Already, this year has seen more social work related television programmes than ever before. In April, the series ‘15,000 Kids and Counting’ was broadcast on Channel 4. This was followed by the BBC’s Protecting Our Parents and, in June, a one-off social work sitcom ‘Damned’ was aired on Sky Arts 1, written by and starring Jo Brand.

But how well did they do in their depiction of social work? And will this help to improve the perception of the profession? To find the answers, we asked the people who are best placed to comment: social work professionals themselves.
