DBS backlogs are becoming a nationwide issue for those requiring checks before they can start a new job – now reaching a delay of 130 days. We are urging our candidates to sign up, if you haven’t already, to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update service now to avoid this affecting you.

Why join the DBS update service?

The DBS update service will enable you to keep your DBS certificate up-to-date online and allows employers to instantly check DBS certificates linked to your subscription.

This will:
  • Save you time and money;
  • avoid recruitment delays;
  • and means you can take your DBS certificate from role to role (providing the same level and type of check are required), so you won’t ever have to apply for a new DBS check again!

How do I sign up?

When you apply for your DBS check, make sure you ask for your application form reference number as you will need this to register for the update service online. Alternatively, you can wait to receive your DBS certificate and use your certificate number instead, but you must do this within 19 days of the certificate being issued.

Registration lasts for one year and costs £13 per year.

Maintaining your subscription

Once you have registered, you will receive an ID number so you can view, update and manage your details online. This will allow you to:
  • Keep your contact details up-to-date
  • View reference details
  • View the update status of any DBS certificate linked to your subscription
  • Add or remove applications and DBS certificates
  • View details of companies that have checked the status of your DBS certificates
  • View when your subscription expires and renew your subscription
Don’t delay – make sure you sign up in time for your next job.
