Today (08 September 2014) is World Physical Therapy Day 2014 – a day which raises awareness about how physiotherapy can help people remain mobile and independent.

The event, which is organised by the World Confederation for Physical Therapy, is designed to draw attention to the impact of physical therapy and help the public understand how the profession is supporting global health.

This year, the theme is “Fit to take part” - research has shown that people with long-term illnesses or disabilities are less likely to be employed or play an active role in society. The day is helping to raise awareness of the important role that physiotherapists play in helping these groups fulfil their potential.

Speaking of the day, Lee Emmett from Sanctuary Allied Health said: “World Physical Therapy Day is a great opportunity for the public to understand what physical therapy is, and the difference that it makes to those in need. We are pleased to see initiatives such as this take place as it highlights the importance of the profession.”
